No, no, no it is not a new science, field or topic. It is a problem I face when I visit a new restaurant specializing in a cuisine I haven’t tested yet. I am sure many of you might have faced this problem. I always find it hard to order food I have never heard about or seen before; be it Thai, Mediterranean, etc. To add to the poblem I always like to try something new, so I order the dish which sounds weirdest and/or which my friends, colleagues haven’t ordered yet
. Many a times I end up not so happy, if not disappointed. But if I can see the food then I am sure I will score max in terms of ordering right dish. So here is one of such experiences.
I was entering cafeteria during lunch hour, I know its not a restaurant but my company cafeteria can certainly give a run to many restaurants both in terms of variety of food and taste, just when this hot entree caught my attention. It was full of cheese, nicely stuffed with ____, garnished with hot tomato sauce, served with equally appealing Mexican Rice….yummmyyyyyy. I knew I had to have eat it otherwise I would have felt guilty rest of the day. So I asked the lady what it was and what were the ingredients, etc. She told me it was some “Anche lado” a Mexican dish. Since I was too eager to please my taste buds with the stuff, I hardly heard the name. I went ahead, picked a nice window-side table and munched on the delicacies. Let me tell you the entusiasm was worth it, it was too delicious. Logically it was similar to Dosa -a south Indian dish – but with lots of cheese, ____, and spicy tomato sauce. The Mexican rice reminded me of Khichdee, a typical Maharashtrian Rice Dish. So all in all it was a delicious experience.
After finishing it I proceeded to payment counter. Just when I handed my debit card I realized that I had forgot the name of the dish and so I asked this gentleman about it by pointing to it. He quickly told me that it is ”Anche lado” and I was happy again, trying not to forget the name. While handing me the receipt the gentleman(?) dropped the bomb shell. He asked “Sir, how did you eat the dish without knowing its name?”. Smart ass.
So not only identifying and ordering good food is a big task but also you MUST remember what you ate
P.S. Don’t ask me what “____” is.
